Wyncode To Name the Two Future Leaders of Tech Scholarship Winners
Written by Administrator on 15th September 2015, 9:43 PM
We have great news- and it’s not about a new operating system or mobile device with 2,000 megapixels- it’s about helping fund young education for entrepreneurs and catalyzing the Miami tech scene. In July, The Knight Foundation allocated $75,000 to Wyncode Academy in order to provide scholarships to nine Miami-Dade County residents from underrepresented minorities. The first two winners of the Future Leaders of Tech Scholarship will be announced next Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 11 AM. As transformative educators we are excited to extend this opportunity to members of our community who are interested in pursuing a career in the tech field, but have faced difficulty in funding their aspirations.
“Our mission at Wyncode is to give anyone the skills and tools to begin a career in coding,” says our co-founder Juha Mikkola. “The future growth of Miami’s innovation ecosystem relies on the ability to build a community of entrepreneurs that reflects the diversity of our city,” says the Miami program director for The Knight Foundation Matt Haggman. “Wyncode is giving South Florida residents the skills they need to not only learn how to code, but to engage in their community and contribute to the success of their city.”
The panel electing the award consists of 3 leaders from the Miami tech community. Brian Brackeen, CEO of Kairos a company specializing in facial recognition software; Kiesha Moodie the Director of Alumni Engagement for Teach For America; and Widny St. Louis, a Wyncode alumni who overcame significant barriers to begin his career as a web developer at TouchSuite. The panelists will conduct interviews with the finalists the night before the unveiling. The winners will be announced the following morning, Wednesday September 16, 2015, at 11 AM at the Wyncode campus.
Fear not, for the next window for application opens on September 16. We encourage you to find out more about how the Knight Foundation and Wyncode Academy can help you reach your goals at www.wyncode.co
