On December 11, four of Miami’s local leaders met with the Miami Fellows in Downtown Miami to participate in a leadership conversation that focused on the state of growth and development of the economy of South Florida. Wyncode’s co-founder, Juha Mikkola, was among the four speakers asked to present to the sixteen Fellows. Juha shared his perspective and insight into the trends, challenges and future for small businesses and entrepreneurs in Miami – specifically from the vantage point of developing a smarter and more passionate workforce.
The Miami Fellows program, which began in 1999, connects the Fellows with leaders of South Florida’s most influential organizations to build their knowledge, networks & abilities and to create lasting relationships. The leadership event held on December 11 was a great example of the Miami Foundation connecting the Fellows with local leaders. Joining Juha were:
- Wifredo Fernandez – Director of The Idea Center at Miami Dade College & Co-Founder of The Lab Miami
- John Hall – Executive Director at Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses at Miami-Dade College
- Jade Palomino – Manager at Endeavor Miami
Class VII of Miami Fellows are truly a group from the top of their respective sectors. The sixteen individuals that were selected last year began a 15-month program in April 2014 that focuses on identifying, developing, connecting and engaging with emerging local talent who share a commitment to leading a Greater Miami. Given the long-term commitment and high-reaching goals of the program, the selection committee must be extremely diligent with their choices: “We identify individuals 5 to 15 years into their professional career who are inspired by our community’s potential, have demonstrated ethical leadership and have the dedication to do more…Fellows develop a deeper understanding of effective leadership while learning about important issues facing Greater Miami.”
The Miami Foundation reached out to Juha and the three other leaders who presented on December 11 in order to display a broad range of success stories to influence the Fellows to do whatever it takes to make Miami a greater place to live, work and play!
Including one of our own reinforces the reality of the emerging tech industry in South Florida, which Wyncode is a major part of, that will play a key role in the future of Greater Miami.
