Future Leaders of Tech Scholarship Winners are Announced

By Juha Mikkola

Less than two months ago, most of the students currently enrolled in Wyncode Academy Miami’s 8th Cohort knew little to nothing about coding. Now, after a challenging and often life-changing nine weeks where students learn to code while being fully immersed in the local tech ecosystem and lifestyle, these same students are ready to present a full stack Web application that they built themselves from the ground up during their final two weeks of training at Wyncode’s Pitch Day VIII on Thursday, March 10, at The LAB Miami.

Additionally, we are looking forward to seeing our two current Future Leaders of Tech Scholarship winners, Aldrin Bustos and Jermaine Laing, present their Web apps on Pitch Day VIII. At our last Pitch Day in December, we were blown away by the presentations of the two scholarship winners at the time – Henry Arbolaez and Arielle Dickey-Lewis – and we can’t wait to see what this current crop has come up with.

The Future Leaders of Tech Scholarship, in partnership with Knight Foundation, covers 100 percent of the winner’s tuition for our nine-week development bootcamp. We will announce the next two scholarship recipients for our upcoming March Cohort on Thursday night. A selection panel made up of Felecia Hatcher & Derick Pearson (Code Fever), Widny St. Louis (TouchSuite) and Katie Blais (Zanmi Beni) will meet prior to Pitch Day to determine the two Future Leaders of Tech Scholarships winners from these five finalists:

1. John Rhoden
2. Michael Montero
3. Ana Padilla
4. Alex Vera
5. Solomon Forbes

Do you want to learn to code? Would you like to build your own Web app? How about landing a job as a developer? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you should come check out our Pitch Day for Wyncode Miami’s 8th Cohort. The selection panel that will select the best Web application from Cohort VIII includes:

Mary Biggins, co-founder of ClassPass/MealPass
Josh Siegel, CTO of CareCloud
Brian Brackeen, CEO of Kairos
Matt Haggman, Miami program director for Knight Foundation

We encourage prospective students, hiring partners, Wyncode alumni and the emerging Miami tech community to join us to watch Wyncoders present their new Web  applications. Who knows, you may discover that learning to code is right for you and that it can open doors for the opportunities that you are seeking. Or, you may even meet your future co-founder or that dream developer you have been looking for, Check out this video from one of our previous Pitch Day events:

Pitch Day VIII, which serves as a culmination for all of the hard work our Wyncoders have put into learning to code over the past nine weeks, will take place on Thursday, March 10, beginning at 6 p.m., at The LAB Miami in Wynwood. This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. RSVP and invite your friends here.
