“Ernie is super well known and respected across the Miami Tech scene,” Wyncode’s co-founder Johanna Mikkola said, “He has a proven track record leading teams and mentoring junior developers”.
Ernie’s track record is second to none. After completing his Computer Science Engineering degree in California, Ernie worked at Yahoo!, Ning and Rackspace. Upon arriving in Miami, his desire to help grow the Miami Tech community was quickly apparent. He co-founded Code for Miami, a “brigade” of developers, designers, data geeks, leaders, and idea-makers who volunteer to help government and civic organizations adopt open web technologies for Miami-Dade County, Florida.
He most recently worked as Head of Technology for WhereBy.Us, publishers of Miami’s favorite newsletter, The New Tropic. While there, he led a team of developers and digital designers that included Wyncode graduates. Kassandra Meyer, a Wyncoder from Miami’s 4th cohort, had this to say about Ernie:
“I reported to Ernie at WhereBy.Us for over two years, and I came away from my time at the company incredibly impressed by both his leadership and his technical expertise. Ernie also brings a unique combination of dedication, pragmatism, and, most important, humanity to his work, all of which made it a pleasure to report to him. I’ll be forever grateful to Ernie for seeing the potential in me to become a software engineer, and I won’t ever forget the example he set for me as a mentor and as a person.”
Wyncode is honored to have Ernie join us. Here at Wyncode, we believe that to be the best, you have to learn from the best and this is a further testament to this philosophy. Ernie is “looking forward to applying my experience building local tech communities to the next generation of web developers!”
Ernie joins Wyncode’s teaching team that features Gessica Tortolano, who leads our UX/UI program. Gessica’s experience includes time at Sapient (where she won a Webby for the Miami Heat mobile app) and working with clients like Google, Samsung, Gap and Facebook.
Welcome to the team, Ernie!
Ernie will be teaching our Full Stack Web Development program starting January 13th, 2020. We only have a few spots remaining, so be sure to apply soon here!
